11) Housing Benefit Stopped When Sanctioned

Just cleared something up at the local housing benefits office, i wasn't aware of.... when a decision is sent for sanction, it was my belief prior to today that your housing benefit is stopped for the period you are "disallowed" job seekers allowance.

However this is not true. As soon as a negative decision comes back from the jobseekers department, the local housing authority is notified and your housing benefit is stopped.

However you can continue to claim housing benefit under the "No viable income" category, with no reduction. The penalty so to speak is that there is a delay in rent subsidy (LHA) payments, with all the paperwork that needs to be filled out e.t.c.

Why for the love of God, is this not already done automatically?

I.e current protocol is that the housing benefits people are notified that your jobseekers has been sanctioned and stop it.
You should then be automatically moved into the "no viable income" category.

You think because someone has had their jobseekers allowance stopped, that there suddenly not going to need to pay rent for their current accommodation? What kind of logic is that exactly?

Making this process automatic would save on admin/overhead costs for the local council, not having to fill out pointless paperwork e.t.c and also make the unfortunate jobseekers experience, who's more than likely been illegally/dubiously sanctioned in the first place, somewhat smoother.

The fact that today is the first day i was aware of such happenings means this is obviously something that is not so widely known.

However it should be.....

Dan Kinobi Because it creates unwarranted stress for people, and other people, who might not of been aware that they are eligible for housing benefit after a sanction decision was taken against them, deserve to know what the deal is.

And its not "getting paid" ***. Its having the most basic of social amenities provided such as a roof over your head, the likes of which being revoked/removed might prove somewhat daunting to people who were not aware that they could continue to claim housing benefits, in such a situation.
Not everyone has the luxury of having parents they can fall back on squire.
