Right just been down to the local council, which i was fully expecting to be on strike. Turns out it wasn't. I didn't see any picket lines or anything like that. I went to take a ticket to get an appointment, then realized that it wasn't exactly sending a great message of solidarity to the workers affected, so proceeded to scrunch it up. That is coming from someone who has just had their only ability to exist removed from them, and could really of done with sorting that out.
Don't get me wrong in my encounters with the council/jobcentre/government i've been dealing with some (as you can see from previous posts on here) extremely unprofessional individuals who i would happily fire if i had the ability.
However for the aforementioned reasoning about making a statement with regard to low pay not only in the public sector, but the private sector also, its important that a message of solidarity is sent out.
Ironically, the only person working there (housing benefit), was actually a really helpful member of staff, who was respectful courteous and professional in her capacity as a civil servant, and general previous dealings with me.
